JDAI Visiting Scholar

At JD, we thrive in developing new technologies to accelerate our business, as well as in finding new business scenarios for existing technologies. The JDAI Visiting Scholar program hosts scholars interested in using the resources and real-life business applications from JD to further their research.

Application Guide


To apply for the visiting scholar program, applicants must be permanent faculties, post-doctors or researchers affiliated with an academic institution or a research institute of world influence. Research areas include but not limited to Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Automatic Speech Recognition and Natural Language Processing. The detailed research topics can be found at the Research Tab on the website. Applicants should be approved by their institutions to visit and work at JDAI Research while on sabbatical or vacation. Applicants can choose to visit either Beijing or Silicon Valley office, as long as they are citizens of or have a valid working VISA for the venue of their choice.

Submission of Proposal

Review the details below and finish your proposal, then click the Apply button to submit the required information and your proposal. Researchers are welcome to discuss their proposals before submission.

Proposal details:
• Length: No longer than ten pages.
• Language: Must be written in Chinese or English.
• Title: Make sure to give your proposal a title in the format of "Visiting Scholar_Full Name of the Scholar". This is essential for the processing.
• Content: Include but not limited to the following:
• Scholar’s research background and interest
• Proposed research objective
• Proposed working plan, if any (timeline and milestones)
• Other information if necessary


Applications are reviewed by the steering committee consisting of researchers from JDAIR on the basis of the information submitted.

The decision notifications will be communicated to the applicants in the form of email.


Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
